PARA PROFESSIONAL:
Summary: Objective is to assist the teacher achieve teaching objectives by working with individual students or small groups to help them achieve the skill levels of the class as a whole.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or GED
- 48 college credits, or an AA Degree or a successful passing score on the ParaPro PRAXIS test
- Essential Duties and Responsibilities
DUTIES:
- Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning materials or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
- Assists the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities.
- Helps students master equipment or instructional materials assigned by the teacher.
- Operates and cares for the equipment used in the classroom.
- Reads to students, listens to the students read, and participates in other forms of oral communication with the students.
- Assists in checking and recording student attendance. Helps maintain individual records for students; assists with daily, quarterly or yearly clerical duties as requested by the teacher.
- Substitutes for classroom teacher in his/her absence if asked by the building administrator.
- Alerts teacher to any problem or special information about an individual student.
- Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of certified teachers.
- Participates in all family nights, programs, and extra-curricular activities at the school as assigned by the building administrator.
- Supervises recess, breakfast, lunch, hallways, busing and restrooms as assigned.
- Assists with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, and field trips. Continuously responsible for the safety, well-being and work output of students.
- Participates in In-Service training/workshops/programs as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned.
