POSITION:              Exceptional Education Teacher        

DEPARTMENT:        TCES     

REPORTS TO:          Building Administrator

DATE:                     January, 2009

FLSA STATUS:        Exempt

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  In accordance with school calendar and board policy.

EVALUATION:          In accordance with TCEA Master Agreement.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:        Classroom, students, and volunteers.           

 

SUMMARY:                Responsible for planning instruction and/or adaptation of the education program to enable students to benefit from educational experiences.

 

QUALIFICATION/BASIC JOB REQUIREMENTS:

 

  1. Degree in special education.
  2. Valid South Dakota certificate with special education endorsement.
  3. Ability to operate a computer and related software.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES: 

 

  1. Instructs individuals and groups in special education skill areas.
  2. Plans curriculum, lessons, and exceptional education programs and teaching methods.
  3. Evaluates student progress based on papers submitted, test scores, and observation determines goals, objectives and directions.
  4. Monitors students’ progress in and outside the exceptional education room.
  5. Prepares educational records (i.e. progress reports, IEP’s, classroom observation records, etc).
  6. Administers testing evaluations.
  7. Modifies curriculum based upon student needs.
  8. Maintains confidentiality of all information.
  9. Other duties may be assigned.

 

OTHER FUNCTIONS:

 

  1. Provides direction to paraprofessionals.
  2. May travel to meet job requirements.
  3. Establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, and parents.
  4. Practices excellent oral and written communication skills.
  5. Performs the duties with the awareness of all the district’s requirements and board policies.
  6. Participates in inservice training/workshops/programs as requested.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.  Duties are performed indoors and occasionally outdoors.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, and hear.  The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl.  The employee must occasionally push or lift up to 50 pounds such as boxes and AV/ VCR carts.  The employee is directly responsible for the safety, well-being, or work output of other people.    Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus.  The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
