SUMMARY: Patrols buildings and grounds; enforces rules, regulations, and laws to maintain the security and safety of buildings, property, personnel and students. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: School Year EVALUATION: ln accordance with Board of Education policy. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None ESSENTIAL DUITES AND RESPONSIBILITES: 1. Patrols school buildings and grounds by foot and vehicle to ensure personal and property safety. -Checks buildings for unlocked doors and windows; unauthorized visitors; vandalism; fire and other hazardous conditions; and proper operation of pumps, motors, and compressors. -Reports security problems and hazardous conditions to supervisor. -Operates time and date key station. -Maintains a log of shift activities and prepares incident reports. 2. Provides information and assistance to the public to assist them in locating buildings or individuals. -Escorts unauthorized visitors from grounds. 3. Restrains disturbed or unruly students until help comes. 4. Maintains building environmental equipment and makes routine adjustments to ensure proper operation and safety. -Removes snow. -Responds to maintenance custodial calls to determine the nature of the problem and the appropriate action. This involves completing a work order, notifying the senior security guard of problems, and notifying appropriate maintenance staff of the problem. -Monitors boilers for proper operation. Must be able to give and follow oral and written instructions; remain calm under stressful situations; and recall and record information concisely and accurately. Must exercise tact, patience and discretion in dealing with people of varying backgrounds and temperament. Other duties may be assigned. QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
High School Diploma or GED certificate. Must be 18 years old - 21 years old if working at the high school. Knowledge of law enforcement procedures, security and search techniques, and screening equipment. Previous experience in security, law enforcement, or military preferred.
