SUMMARY: To provide each student with the medical help to minimize absence due to illness and create climate of health and well being in the district schools.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Bachelors in Nursing
2. Valid South Dakota RN Nursing License
EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:
1. 2 year experience preferred
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Conducts school programs or immunization, physical examinations, head lice checks, and sight testing as needed.
2. Notify parents/guardians of students' physical health needs to be healthy individuals, this includes the reporting to parents/guardians of student with head lice.
3. Keep logs on all medications given, daily health needs of students, visits to the nurse, head check verification and rechecks, daily accident reports, etc. (keeping documentation on every incident).
4. Will take note of suspected child neglect/abuse and reporting suspicions to administrators and proper authorities per board policy.
5. On call for all schools in the Todd County School District.
6. Available on Family Nights and other nights as assigned by the administrator to be available for conferencing with parents.
7. Observes students on a regular basis to detect health needs.
8. Maintains up-to-date cumulative health records on all students.
9. Reviews health records and shot records and provides the required information as needed to the State Department of Health, especially new students to the district and incoming kindergarten students.
10. As assigned by administrator - conducts classes with students as needed on health care issues.
11. Reposrts to parents/guardians, administrators, physicians, clinics and other agencies on student health matters.
12. Visits students homes when necessary.
13. Assessment and implementation of services for students with special needs.
14. Assumes authority for the care of a student or staff member who has suffered an injury or emergency illness until contacting the parent/guardian, local clinic, or hospital.
15. Administers first aid in accordance with established first aid procedures.
16. Makes recommendations to administrator and parent/guardians of health needs of individual students.
17. Implements policy and procedure on exclusion and readmission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases.
18. Participates in inservice training programs. Trains school district employees delegated to provide services in the administration of medication.
19. Assists in all wellness committee services that require an RN - flu shots; TB skin tests.
20. Assists school personnel in maintaining sanitary standards in schools.
21. Other duties as assigned.
